The obvious one is oud. That was never up for debate. But five other notes have earned their place in the building.
The obvious one is oud. That was never up for debate. But I am not a complete tyrant. Other notes are allowed in the building. These five earn their keep.
Lavender. Herbal, soapy, faintly sweet. It tells me to calm down, and for once I listen. Clean sheets. A long exhale. The rare note that lowers my shoulders.
Pepper. Hot, dry, sharp. A nudge in the ribs. It wakes a fragrance up mid-sentence. Wearing it feels like arriving somewhere with intent.
Rhubarb. Tart, green, mouth-watering. Slightly rude, honestly. I am eight again, pulling stalks from the garden and wincing at the sour. It makes me grin every time.
Cedar. Dry, warm, woody. Pencil shavings and quiet confidence. Cedar does not raise its voice. It has never needed to.
Bergamot. Bright citrus, bitter edge. The first light of the whole bottle. Morning sun through a kitchen window. It opens the door, then politely steps aside.
Five great notes. All of them comfortable in second place. Smart, really.
