Rose Oud elixir with rose petals and agarwood

Every guest knows the rules.

Don't wear white. Don't out-dress the groom. Nobody warned me about the fifth rule.

Don't wear white. Don't out-dress the groom. Don't be late to the ceremony. Don't make a speech unless you're asked.

Nobody warned me about the fifth rule.

Years ago, at a friend's wedding, I sprayed like the bottle was running out. Eight sprays. Maybe ten. Marquee in July, thirty degrees by noon.

Halfway through the vows I could smell myself over the flowers. So could the row in front. One of them turned round and smiled the way British people smile when something is wrong.

I learned the fifth rule that day.

Your fragrance shouldn't arrive before you do.

It's half the reason I ended up working with oud oil. Most fragrance is around 10% oil, gone by the speeches, so you spray more, and more, until you're the story. Oud oil works the other way. You only need a little. A dab on the pulse points in the morning is still working at midnight.

Somewhere in the afternoon you'll stop smelling it and think it's faded. It hasn't. You've just gone nose-blind. A nose stops noticing anything it has lived with for an hour or two, while everyone you hug can still smell it perfectly well. The other lesson from that day: never add more just because you can't smell yourself. That's how eight sprays happen.

The Elixir Collection was built for days like this.

30%+ oud oil. Most fragrance sits near 10%.

90 days sealed in steel. Matured in the dark in Redbourn.

Three ways to wear it to a wedding

The method, since you'll ask: One elixir down first. The second over the top. Start at 60/40 and adjust until it's yours.

Still there at midnight, exactly where you put it.
